I’m interested in correspondence, bills, agreements, etc. between Gilbert Stuart, when he was in Boston from 1805 until his death in 1826, particularly with John Doggett (Doggett’s Repository of Art 1821-26), and John Ritto Penniman, artist who worked with Stuart then,
I am interested in connecting them with Simon Willard clockmaker, whom
Doggett and Penniman worked with. Stuart exhibited his works with Doggett
among many others.
Come across anything in your research?
Hi Richard. Unfortunately my research did not take me far into Stuart’s correspondence, only to more basic resources like Carrie Barratt and Ellen Miles’s exhibition catalog, and the biographies by George Mason, Richard McLanathan, and John Hill Morgan. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Your project sounds fascinating, and I wish you the best of luck!
